Tiny blisters on roof

Hi All,
Mine has been reported through the Cambridge branch but haven`t heard anything as yet back from the Warranty claim. I was completing a spring clean this weekend prior to getting back out on the road and removed the mattress etc and came across corrosion along both edges and the Bed Hinges so will be also submitting the details to the local branch for their response.

Thanks for your comment GeorgeG. If / when anyone has had a good experience with a dealer replacing it if they could share it on here then I’ll speak to to that dealer. I wouldn’t mind being a guinea pig with my van if the local dealer was helpful!
My MP was new in June 2018 so I assume the issue will need logging before a year is a up?
Sandown Poole sounded helpful according to one of the contributors on here so that’s an option but I could travel anywhere across the southern half of the country. Thanks again!
Hi Ridgeway

I’m just off to Mercedes Poole to have the roof issue logged and the warranty process started. I spoke to the service manager who said they have replaced two roofs so far. He mentioned that, as you would expect, they learnt a lot about the job from the first one. Sounds quite encouraging. I’ll report back later after meeting.

Just back from Mercedes Poole. Booked in mid June as off to France and Spain for 6 weeks.
Service Manager took photos of blisters and was aware of the procedure - new roof is supplied and is painted by the dealer who then swaps out the old one. Takes about 3 1/2 days.

Interestingly, he said he was getting quite a lot of phone calls from other dealers who had come across this issue who seemed inclined to send the vehicles to Poole for fixing.

Hi GeorgeG

Thanks for your messages, really appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Although I live in Wilstshire I think it’ll be wise for me to call Sandown Poole and visit them as they have experience with this.

Thanks again

We're dealing with Mercedes Bath - so far so good. They are waiting for Mercedes to get back to them re warranty claim but do not foresee a problem (fingers crossed) and I was given similar information to GeorgeG re process.

We have also found some corrosion on the frame under the mattress - thanks (?!) DWB for the heads ups on that. Corrosion on screws. Metal edges look untreated so not sure how susceptible they will be to corrosion. So annoying - love the van and don't need this hassle!

I just had my van returned last week with a new roof, after putting roof up I saw there were two raised areas in the centre of roof.
So rejected repair , just had van collected today, the driver told me they had rang round and even the new roofs are blowing again,
He said the problem is with the Gel coat, I also saw a brand new van in store at the bodyshop and the roof on that had already blown.
So if you have had a new roof check for imperfections . We need this to be 100% right

Hi All. After a post winter inspection on a 1 year old MP, I too have about 50 blisters on the roof. The supplying dealership has no knowledge of this problem, however it's booked in to be photographed to start the warranty claim off. Looks like a long trip to Poole may be in order! A further inspection has also found rust on some fixings under the mattress and all of the blue plastic inners within the mattress retaining strap press-on studs is crumbling away leaving blue 'dust' on the top of the fabric ceiling lining.

I had a closer inspection of my roof over the weekend and it was quite dusty but you can clearly see some of the blisters are seeping a sticky residue that seems to be mixing with the dust like oil might. It’s not oily though seems to dry hard like tree sap.

Hi Carol, sorry to hear the repair is unacceptable. As a matter of interest, which dealer did you use? I was anticipating having to check post-repair and intend to take comprehensive photos of the van before it goes in. I also have corrosion on the upper bed rails and this is being looked at this week as part of my claim. It’s all very worrying.

Following discovery of blisters on my roof in Feb , A new roof was fitted and van returned a week ago.I was not happy as two bumps were clearly visible on the new roof,
I therefore to the van back and rejected the replacement roof.
While at the bodyshop discussing the poor work with the technician, I suggested we compare the roof with another van parked up, I was told this was abrand new vehicle ready to go out. Unfortunately on looking that roof had already blown.

After having the van a further week, they contacted me yesterday to inform me there was
a problem (a ripple in the new roof) and they are now in contact with MB Germany ,
I have now got the van back and awaiting an update from the bodyshop for what next ? another roof.
They told me they have 3 other vans booked in for a new roof which they are now putting on hold until they hear from MB
I suggest all owners keep a regular check on there roofs

Sorry to hear about this Carol, and thanks for the heads up I'm waiting to hear about when my replacement will be fitted at the moment so your advice is appreciated

FYI folks, the fleet workshop at MBUK have looked at mine and it's 'in the queue' for repair. They're just finishing their first replacement on another vehicle but they don't know the original cause yet. We'll see.

We have about 10 little blisters on the roof. Are these on all MP vans or is this just a limited problem? Do they get worse over time?
Having just got our new van back after 2 weeks at the menders I’m not looking forward to sending it back for something else.

We have discovered a number of these small blisters on the top and side of the roof (only took delivery in March 19). I had a conversation with the body shop specialist at our local/supplying dealer in Carlisle today and we are due to take it back in tomorrow to discuss our options with the warranty specialist. Reading previous posts we will ask for further information/assurance about the quality of replacements as we don’t want to go through the hassle of replacing the roof if the problem is only going to reoccur.

I hope they find a way of making these replacements last or my fear is the resale value of these vans could be affected out of warranty

We’ll be interested to hear how you get on. We got ours from the same dealer a month later.

Hi, we have been advised the warranty claim paperwork has been started but a new roof is not currently available. I’ve explained i’m not in any hurry to get a new roof and would prefer to wait until MB are able to give assurances the issue has been resolved to avoid the potential for multiple replacements. Interestingly quoting the posts on this forum seemed to help and I also mentioned that another Carlisle customer was monitoring the situation and Katie the warranty specialist at Carlisle MB said she would prepare to receive another similar claim.
