Software Update - 'Just like a laptop'

Getting the same issue now pop up. Steering feels weird and the error is as above.

Sounds like it might be an abs sensor. It’s going into a local garage (all out of warranty) for a quick diagnostic check on Wednesday. Will report back.

I was getting phantom drivers rear side parking sensor warnings on reverse and I do know there’s a little condensation in a rear passenger side tail light.

Other than that no clues.

All discs and brakes were changed last year.

99% sure it’s wheel sensor. Had mine done last week. Caused spurious power steering activity and severe limp mode and gear box malfunctions. There are several threads about it. Seems a problem with sensors breaking down. Mine was rear OS .. but my Mertech guy says they’ve had issues with front. Exasperated by road potholes.

Not a difficult job. Several YouTube clips.

Also Febi Bilstein from EBay only £35 rather than £150 Merc part.

Must get myself some form of diagnostic tool. I do plan to keep the MP for a fair few years. Be worthwhile I think to cut out a step or two on the way to a fix.

It’s only got 23k on it for a 2019 v250 and tbh I really like the car.

I can confirm rear passenger side abs sensor is faulty. We have reset the code meantime and will get her booked in next week to sort it out. Thanks for the help and information.

Update car booked in for Tuesday. Tech wants to look at the wheel bearing to see if that’s causing the sensor to fail.

It seems intermittent. The alert will clear and then come back on again later.

Rear wheel abs sensor replaced, charged for part fitting, diagnostic and removing a pint of oil to stop the annoying “too much oil” alerts.

Hopefully that’s the last I’ll see of both. £190. Probably a tad more than I was expecting. Hey ho the joys of motoring.

Coming a bit late to this party, but we are on holiday in Switzerland and Germany and have had the ABS and pre- safe warnings come on, funny feeling to the power steering and haywire sat nav on our 2019 MP Sport. Also got the roof alarm sounding whenever starting up, cruise control inoperative along with tailgate and side door. MB garage in Konstanz said just keep going and get it all sorted when back in UK. All seems to point to ABS sensor issue, plus maybe roof sensors. Hope our extended warranty will apply….

As above 99% sure it’s wheel sensor. Ours had a second sensor (different wheel) fail on our last trip. We carry spare sensors. If you’re mechanically minded it’s a DIY job. Rear is a bit more difficult than fronts. Fronts is about 30 min job. A few YouTube vids showing how.
Sensors. Merc part is about £150. OEM equivalent from Bosch’s Pagid etc £40 ish. A lot on here have use pagid with no issue.
Merc dealers are useless with MarcoPolo find decent independent or local garage can do.

Merc also have van/truck service centres that are much more knowledgeable.(such as Mertrux) After all it’s a Vito van. !!

Thank you for the rapid response. As you say seems pretty clear it’s a wheel sensor issuec, although a bit strange if it’s also causing the roof alarm to go off. Maybe that’s a separate issue. I guess we’ll find out when we get home.

The van gets confused. Won’t let doors and roof do its stuff as it’s confused as to what speed you’re doing. Thinks you’re moving so won’t let you do things that are dangerous if moving. I think the power steering intrusion is particularly dangerous. …

Crazy that safety systems cause an unsafe environment. You’d think the software would know that the other three sensors are working. 3 out of 4 etc…. I had my first rear sensor done at Mertrux Derbyshire who did a free SW update but advised that any remapping or adblue, DPF, delete etc would be put back to standard.
