cabin heater

I'm wondering how you campers control the temperature in the passenger compartment in cold weather. Do you use the heater, or do you have the car plugged into an electrical outlet?. My heater does not keep the compartment temperature comfortable all night. The heater turns off within one hour. (There is no timer set).

Hello SMH, that's weird. I take it we're talking about the factory heater fitted under the passenger seat and controlled by the center console?
Maybe you have a low temperature set?
Does the panel show any error codes when it shuts down the heater?
What year is your van?

Have a look in the search function for 'auxiliary heater'. There are two types of heater on the non MBAC MP's (like my 2018 model); 1. the night heater under the front seat and controlled by the unit in the floor mounted console, 2. the water heater that uses the engine and will run for 45 mins only. The water heater is in V class models and is designed for winter pre heating, not for keeping the cabin warm.

I have the same problem with my 2018 MP, though there is a symbol on the control unit LCD screen (the one that operates the roof and fridge also) that has the wavy line heater symbol with a diagonal line through it and the number 14. I assume 14 is a fault code. Does anyone have a list of fault codes? The manual only seems to go upto fault code 4. There is a distinct lack of information in the MP manual. Sorry I haven't answered your question but any intel on these aux air heaters is very valuable!

Do you know what make and model of heater you have installed?
If it's an Eberspacher you can have a look at the link below for error codes.

Error 14 is related to temperature difference between flame and overheat sensors too large.
Could be related to a number of issues. Your best bet is to have it serviced by someone competent in static heaters. MB probably won't know anything about it and you might have to find a specialised shop that repairs trucks as these are also installed in heavy good vehicles.

Hi Mario, thanks for the reply. I originally thought that mine was a Webasto heater, having read loads of AI nonsense. I managed to obtain the installation manual and code 14 was a fault cabin temp sensor. I then spoke to a Webasto dealer and he confirmed that the cabin sensor I have is not a webasto one. So I managed to take the belly covers off below the van and I have two heaters. I assume one is for the engine preheat and the other is the cabin heater. They both look similar and I suspect both are made by Mercedes. Both have similar exhaust pipes that drop below the belly cover. They don't look like after market ones.
