Sliding side door and rear door stop working

Hi, after no problems some strange things happened all on the same journey from Devon to home. An orange ABS not available symbol appeared and the parking brake illuminated in orange on the dashboard. Having stopped to check it was safe to continue I then found the navigation was showing route not mapped (I was on the M50!) and on returning home the electric sliding side door and tail gate stopped working electronically. Is there a key fob reset option to reboot these sort of issues, has anyone experienced similar and any ideas what type of help I need ie auto electrician, MB garage, or a hammer ! Many thanks for any advice.

Basic questions;

A) have you tried the other key fob?
B) do you have a code reader or can get access to one? If not might be worthwhile talking to an Indy to scan the codes.
C) has a presafe features function not available appeared? Could be an abs sensor issue, see other posts on it.

Can’t help on the sat nag issue it’s probably woefully out of date like most of the MPs on here. It makes zero sense economically to update (as the update itself is not only costly but also possibly out of date too!!).

Your issue with the abs may reset after locking and leaving the car for some time but if it’s a sensor chances are it’ll come back. Not an expensive issue but expect like £150-200 to diagnose and swap out. It’s also a relatively easy diy repair which I believe is covered on YouTube (though haven’t seen it myself).

Please update the thread. The more knowledge on here the better.

It’ll be the speed sensor on the left hand side front wheel. When the sensor fails the ECU thinks the vehicle is still in motion & prevents sliding door & boot lid from opening

Thanks j200George, that’s really helpful. I’ll post results. Ragga thinks it’s the left hand wheel speed sensor and with your answer, too it helps a lot.

Agreed. Likely wheel sensor. Common point of failure. If you’re mechanically minded it’s a DIY JOB. Need to read codes to determine which one. There’s a few YouTube vids showing how to do… or any competent garage should do it.

Hi Rob and Sandra, thank you. Unfortunately I’m not but I’ve found a place which seems to understand and will do it so . Great to be able to give them a heads up. I’m finding MP’s a little querky. Suspect there are too many electrics?? Still love it though. Thanks

I think the older our cars get the more commonplace this is going to get. The sensor wears out/ ages and oxidises (I guess). I think I’d like to invest in a code reader. Having had one replaced at a cost of c£160 (which wasn’t that bAd in the scheme of things) reckon it’d pay for itself in no time, especially if the other three head south in time.

I don’t think it’s a particular weakness of the MP. It’s a fairly common fault.
