Where is my "water heater" ?

Hi all.
According to the brochure/manual and my vehicle configuration print out, my 2021 MP should have both heaters.
Diesel heater is fine and works as it should. The "hot-water auxiliary heater" is nowhere to be seen. (I'm aware it's not to heat tap water etc) I've rang Mercedes and he just got confused but confirmed it is on the spec sheet.
Frustrating as I leave for work in the early hours most days and a toasty van would be nice.
It's really bugging me
 
I don't own a MP but from my investigation (with the intention of sourcing one) both dealers and owners seem to know very little about the various heating systems, or anything else. The MP can't be the only Merc with that feature so dealers shouldn't have any excuse. I'm undecided regarding the owners:D

I've found this which may or may not be useful.

One thing is for sure general support for the MP is dire!!

Thanks. Its pretty much what I've read in the manual. Issue is its now Mbux so the old command system isn't relevant. Its such a shame that the knowledge/support is like this. I understand that not every dealer can be expected to know everything, but there should be at least one "expert" in the country that can help with such matters. Regardless of this I'd still recommend the vehicle as a camper or even a family car. It really is great, I just hope as popularity grows the dealer knowledge will improve
 
Hi. Welcome to the dark world of MP heaters.

we have a 2018 with both heaters (both were options back then). There also seems to be a third electrical recirculating one but let’s not go there as that’s even more secretive and may not exist.

to turn the diesel hw ‘engine’ heater on I mainly use Mercedes me. I could press the little chrome rocker on the centre bank of switches or use the available remote control that is a similar size to the key.

I looked a while back at the latest MP with the new OM654 2litre engine and could not see in standard equip or options the diesel auxiliary hot water heater. Like I say both heaters were options at £1500 or so previously).

they thankfully put the night heater as standard and a 1.2kw electric heater as standard. But I can’t see how to get the diesel hw one which is part of the base MB vehicle historically. I suspect the electric heater does a similar job of cabin heating, unsure on engine heating.

hopefully someone else can guide.

No option on MercedesMe, no fob and no switch on dash...... I assume it's not fitted but really annoying as it's listed on spec sheet

I think the older MP's are pretty much understood for heating and what to look for, but the new version sounds like its very different. Sorry i can't help, but it looks like this will be another continious thread for new owners just like the old heating one was a couple of years ago, and the current roof blisters.
 
Was it ordered?
Some time ago I remember looking at the configurator for the new models with MBux and the OM654 engines and noticed that only the separate air heater was available and the the engine coolant heater was not offered.
Since conditions in the UK rarely warrant engine pre heating I assumed MB had seen the light regarding the confusion they were causing and had deleted the coolant preheating option for the UK market.
There is a thread somewhere identifying the build codes.

It sounds accurate. But I'll be complaining as it's listed in the standard equipment. More of a principle thing.... but in other news I think I've found someone willing to go over everything with me. Mertrux at Derby sound very promising and there MD has one so he's going to have a good look around before I drop it off next week.
 
Sorry to come in late on this thread but I have just bought a 3 year-old MP for which the first owner paid extra for both a diesel auxiliary night heater and a diesel auxiliary water heater. The first is controlled from the MP Control Unit and the second from the upper section of the centre console. Both fire up but only the night heater seems to work.
 
They are both brilliant once you realise the van does not have any form of hot water from the sink or shower.

together they are about £4K of options from memory on that model year. The diesel auxiliary hot water heater is part of the base Mercedes vehicle and heats the coolant circulating the engine. That reduces engine wear and heats the cabin on cold days so no need to defrost. It lasts up to an hour and can be used c.3 times in a row. Also useful for warming the van before bed

the auxilliary night heater is a camper van addition under the passenger seat controlled from the lower Westfalen unit that lloks like it’s from the 1980’s. you turn it on and set it like a thermostat to keep the van toasty. It then clicks on and off until turned off.

important that you use both regularly (read the manual on an iPad) to keep serviced - probably once a month.
