Using an iPhone for navigation

Hi - we often want to use an iPhone to navigate using Waze or Google. When we connect the charger cable to the console the iPhone goes silent and does not provide oral commentary on the route... Does anyone have this problem? It's not life-threatening but irritating! We have a 2018 Marco Polo.

The USB by the console is media input so connects your phone. We use that for sat nav and podcasts etc, but you need to select the phone name on the media menus. For simple charging annd using phone audio out use the cigarette charger plug. We also gave up with the Garmin Merc satnav as maps are old apparently Mercedes relationship with Garmin Pilot only provides 2023 maps ?
They are also a pain to reach so we fitted an extension.

Hi that's really helpful. I've adjusted the settings on my phone to allow Bluetooth Phone calls and that works!!!
