Speaker upgrade Marco polo 2012

What did you mean about leaving the safe untouched? Do you have a lockable safe under the seat on yours? I've had a safe in a VW California before but not in this Marco Polo, mine just has a space under the seat where I fitted a solar mppt charger and sub (which maybe overkill now).

Oh ok, maybe that was a factory option then? Mine just has a battery compartment towards the front and an open compartment at the rear. Any chance you could share a photo? Maybe I'll try and find one on eBay one day.

I got my front and rear speakers fitted this weekend. 6.5" front and rear. Unfortunately I was quite engrossed in the job and didn't take loads of photos but I'll share the ones I took though.

Here's some of my takeaways from the job:

With standard Mercedes spacer adapters it is possible to fit 6.5" speakers in the front and retain all the green plastic door clips. You have to cut back on of the clip mounting points on the door card though and its tight, you have to mod that green clip. I also needed to mod the speaker grilles and door cards to remove the protruding circular speaker guides. For my speakers I could have left the speaker grill ones in place, but the sound was better without them, it gives a wider sound and also removes the risk of speaker contact. I sound deadened the doors too, which is well worth doing.

Tweeters can be fitted in the standard location in the doors, I removed the old tweeter and then shaped the remaining plastic to hold my new tweeters and secured with a few dabs of hot glue. It would be worth surface mounting the tweeters, the sound is restricted behind the plastic grill. I wanted to keep the stock look though.

Rear speakers, I fitted 6.5" co-axial's, using standard universal spacers (13mm height), I did have to open up the hole in the roof lining to accommodate the speaker magnet on one side, and cut an entirely new hole for the magnet on the other side. I made sure the adapters were fitted concentrically over the original speaker mounting position in the metal bracket, I had to cut the roof lining very slightly to allow the adapter to fit. I didn't have to remove the original tweeters, so I left them in place to fill the hole but disconnected them. I think I could have fitted 2-way speakers in the rear, but a larger tweeter diameter would have probably meant it would have to have been recessed. I also sound deadened the storage unit.

Its a huge difference already, but I'm still just running off the head unit, next job is to fit the amp, and DSP to adjust timings and take over the sub control too. I'm happy, it all looks stock but it's definitely going to rock! Party bus!
