Protecting kitchen surfaces

I've heard a couple of reports of the kitchen surfaces being easy to scratch. Any suggestions on how to protect them?

To answer my own question I found this thread on the sister VW California site:

There were some custom-made ones but aside from that the other ideas would apply equally as well to the MP.

I'm just careful with mine. I have three placemats and put one on each surface before putting things down. In colour scheme to match the van so look good.

I applied some frost glass film (non adhesive), works great!
