New owner requests awning recommendations

Hi all. I am in process of buying a 2009 Marco Polo. This is my first camper van after many years of considering getting one. One of the things I was wondering is if anyone could recommend a decent drive away awning. Most my fiends have VWs and not sure if these sort of things are universal or vehicle specific. Any recommendations welcome. Many thanks. Mike

They're universal. Vango produce a decent range but there are plenty of other to choose from.

They connect to a rail on the side of the vehicle or on the awning via a kador and fig 8 strips;

We just bought an Outdoor Revolution Cayman. We tried it on the MP on the drive and seems good but it will be getting it’s maiden voyage proper tomorrow.
I will report back with a photo after the weekend!

Be mindful of ‘universal’. They may fit as they share a common kador connection but check the door configuration. For example: my MP has a right hand sliding door, many VWs have a left hand sliding door, so your drive away awning may have a front or rear facing door

Well we used the Outdoor Revolution Cayman awning for the first time and we’re pretty impressed with it. We went for the 3m square model which gives loads of living space, enough for a two seater inflatable sofa and all our kitchen equipment. It’s fairly easy to erect and just as important packs away quite small.
We had some really wet and windy weather over the weekend but it was fine. Cost was just under £300.

Hi Blackrat. Just following up on this from last year (thanks for posting the images). I’m looking at buying a drive away awning but am trying to get my head around how the different models handle the problem of the sliding door catching the awning as it opens/closes. Has this been a problem with yours?

Hi,
I would say that it’s something to be aware of rather than a problem. We just got into the habit of lifting the canvas slightly when operating the door just in case.We’ve used it several times now without any damage.

Hi just read your post this is the awning we are thinking of getting is your sliding door on the right because all the images on line are on left hand door opening. Thank you

Hi,
Yes our sliding door is on the offside as normal.
The awning is a good fit and we’re happy with it. The material did seem a bit thin at first but having used it a few times in bad weather it was perfectly fine. That includes a couple of long trips through France and Spain.
