MP Radio Upgrade: NTG 5/5.1 Multimedia Video interface.

Hi everyone, bought my 2019 MP in Feb this year and loving it, apart from the lousy Multimedia unit. It is really so basic for such an expensive vehicle.
That said, has anyone upgraded their unit, which would include, DAB, Apple Carplay, Android Carplay, google maps, etc etc, if you have could you please share your experience and fitting costs etc?

Hi Tony,

I've just bought a 2019 MP and did some research on adding DAB and CarPlay/Android Auto to the COMAND system - it's not straightforward and is rather expensive on the V-Class. The details below are from Comand On Line (well-respected Mercedes Audio specialist - comand.co.uk)

DAB can be retro fitted but it's circa £1100 - I'm probably going to buy an Alpine Ezi-Dab or use my phone via bluetooth.

CarPlay and Android Auto is available via an after-market kit at £749 - In that case, I'll be using a Brodit Pro-clip to place my phone in line of sight; not ideal but more cost-effective.

Thanks for the info, think i'll go for the Mercedes NTG 5/5.1 Wireless Apple CarPlay Android Auto Multimedia Retrofit Interface Kit from XCarLink. Costs £449.00 inc vat.
Will fit myself, there's plenty of install videos on youtube...I mean, how hard can it be?
I would be grateful for any advice or better still, if anyone has any experience in fitting these kits or can point me in the right direction of a fitter. North Wales & Chester area.

Wow, sorry can’t help you but keen to see how you get on with that - I bet it’s no easy install… plug and play maybe but the just gaining access through or even behind V-class dash seems like a epic task.

I installed a dash camera to our 2018 MP and ran all the cables down the inside of the A pillar under the trim, that had me wincing partly because of the airbag but mostly because it’s not obvious how to remove the trim and damaging it or the clips will just lead to rattles and squeaks and flappy bits.

things I learned from that relatively simple procedure, get a set of trim removal tools, some gloves, disposable is preferable so any contamination can just be disposed of, clean hands leave no marks!!! Take lots of photos in case you forget or miss something when putting it all back together (and you’ll have something to share after with us lot ) keep us posted.

Agree with Method7, I worry about putting it back correctly. The roof replacement gave us a new set of rattles which had to be found and rectified! That said the two mods I'm interested in, but haven't progressed, are solar and carplay, so very interested in how you get on as well.
