Marco Polo Additional seats

Hello all, just thought I’d share the below pictures of a second row of seats I have finally installed today. Surprised it all worked in the end, had to remove the arm rest (one m6 bolt) but surprisingly comfortable without having to remove the rear bench / bed extension.
Runner installation was a bit fiddly but got there in the end.
Will come out again for nights away but gives more options for taking children and friends around as our second car is only a 4 seater too.

Looks amazing where did you get them & how much, if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi Marilyn, yes I’m really pleased with it.

I just scoured eBay for w447 seats until a set of Lugano leather ones came up. They usually come as a 3 set bench (with the third seat being detachable) but as the MP only has two rails (unless you already have a third rail from the rare early optional single 5th seat) and also less width than the standard w447 due to the kitchen, you can only use the double seat and have to leave the third one out. Luckily the centres on the runners are the same though.
I was fortunate enough to find a double bench on its own without the third seat though so was circa £800 in the end. There’s a set of 3 on eBay now but they are usually >£1000.

Worth pointing out that you also need a pair of roller runners to go in the floor rails to receive the seat. These are available from Mercedes, but I managed to find a pair from a breaker for £50.

Fitting wise, to avoid having to take the extremely heavy existing rear seat fully out I loosened all the seat rail bolts (another random Mercedes fitting needing a T47 torx bit!!) and raised the rail in the boot sliding in the new runners from the rear.

I Then got a friend to help lift the existing seat backwards onto the new set of runners leaving the original runners to receive the new seat.

I did try installing them facing backwards to start with as the runners will let you do that but you don’t have enough leg room unless you take out the rear shelf bed extension.

In this configuration plenty of leg room still all round and very comfortable without the additional faff of removing the bed extension.

Were/are there any insurance implications for making this modification?
My insurance document already listed it as 8 seats for some reason even though definitely a 23 plate factory MP.

Deep in the manual there is a section on adding this bench seat which even describes the necessity of “having the arm rest removed” if you fit a second bench facing forwards, whereas you can leave it in place if facing rearward.

The chassis is type approved for up to 8 seats + the driver.

It looks like you only have two seat rails like me - is that correct? If so, I would love to knows where you purchased the seats from - please can you share?

Yes only two seat rails as most are.

The standard. W447 tourer bench seats use three rails but consist of a double bench that uses two rails and the third single seat of the bench is separate using the third rail and lugs on the frame of the double for location.

If you look further up in the post there is a link to a similar set on eBay, however you obviously can’t use the single (third) seat as no third rail / space.

Please can you let me have details of where you purchased the seats from so that I may contact them?

Ive been looking at this too - great job looks really good! & without having to change rails- I have a 2018 MP with 2 rails.

Worth it now I have done it… comfortable for adults. Least space is behind driver (depending on driver’s stature) but still fine as plenty of width just happy I found same leather, colour and pattern

If you can make it to the Veneto Region of Italy, I'm halfway between Venice and Verona, so, good excuse for a trip--I will gift you my middle row seat. I needed room for the two dogs in my profile picture so within a day or two of receiving my 2018 MP I pulled the middle row. It has remained on a cart in my garage under a cover since that time, only sat on in the Mercedes showroom.

Looks great - exactly what I'd like to do. Can you let me know from where you purchased the seats and roughly how much they were? Cheers
