Hi all, just out of interest does anyone know how to pair the diesel aux heater remote with the MP itself? Having some difficulties making this happen! Thanks!

This would be interesting to know - just tried searching google in German but I can't see any threads on the German forums

Not sure this helps but the user manual states that the remote needs to be synchronised with the MP by an authorised specialist workshop, MB I guess? Mine just worked out of the box.

Ok is it the remote that has 2 buttons ( ok and on/off) if so it is paired you have to press on button till it flashes the led red the press ok there the led will go green and heater is on, same for off it is just inside van rf remote to avoid u jumping down from bed at night to switch on and off heater

I have a similar problem to the OP. We ordered the auxiliary heater (which is great) but the remote we ordered wasn't in the car when we picked it up. The sales team finally tracked one down, which came in a packet which looks like it's straight out of the stores. Naturally, it doesn't work and the LEDs flash red/green showing that it needs pairing to the vehicle.

I have been told that the car needs to be returned to the dealer for a day and this can only be arranged weeks ahead as they need a "master technician" for the marco polo to carry it out. I find this rather strange and wonder if anyone has managed to get the remote to pair through an easier route.

Thanks.

Sorry to go on about this, but the MP has been back to MB to have the remote paired and I have just had a message that they can't find out how to do it. They say they will try and contact Germany next week to find out. Not bad for a £400+ accessory.

Has anyone managed to find a dealer who has successfully paired the remote and if so could you post a reply with the details and maybe I can ask our local service engineers to contact them for the information?

Mine works fine although I don’t expect I’ll need to use it
I got my van from the mb dealer in Dorchester, part of the Sandown group
Mine is the first to go out from them with the heater so whether they set it up or it arrived like that I don’t know.
Good luck

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately events have overtaken us. I asked to have the van back for the weekend as we expected to use it, without the remote function.

This morning, I found that the centre control panel was completely broken, so no fridge, heater or roof function at all. I think the engineer must have tried to remove the panel to try and pair the remote.

I wondered why they were reluctant to let me have the van back, although it was only booked in for the day

After a fraught discussion with the manager at the dealership, the van is going back until fixed.

So annoying. I hope you get it fixed soon. There must be a simple way of pairing the remote so maybe they removed the control panel thinking it is something more than a pairing issue. Somebody on this forum (probably me) is going to lose the remote and need to buy and pair a new one so it would be good to know how.

Hi all, sorry I hadn't noticed there had been a response on this. To give you an update, we got our van back in October last year, and our dealership (Bristol) only managed to get the remote working about four weeks ago. It's been back in several times over this period, each time they thought they'd worked out how to do it, and each time they were unsuccessful until the recent visit obviously. It's interesting what you say about the control panel being broken Spekky, I thought ours was fine, but I notice the other night when I was driving that the panel seemed to keep lighting up randomly, as though a loose connection. I'll check it again now. If it helps, I think in the end they did work out that they didn't need to take anything apart to pair it.

Hi Spekky - sorry, wasn't sure if I could 'tag' you so hoping that replying means you'll be notified of post! Hopefully my post above will help?

Thank you for the detailed reply. The van went back today and I think it will need a new centre console. The outer twisting knob on the right is now very stiff and the button doesn't work at all. I asked them to fix the console and give me back the money for the remote (which is ludicrously expensive), but they say they will fix the whole thing. No idea how long it will take, but it is unusable at the moment, so might as stay in their garage as our drive.

Just out of interest, does anyone have a view on whether the dealer should offer any compensation. So far, I have owned the car for four weeks, it has done 60 miles so far back and forth to the dealers and I don't, currently, have a camper van.

They offered a temporary car for me, but I have one of those.

I've no idea on the compensation front, but definitely feeling your pain on the remote pairing - we really felt it shouldn't be that complicated to pair the thing. Hope they sort it for you soon.

Latest communication from MB - they say they have fixed the centre console, but still can't pair this remote (or another they tried from stores). They have the van until Thursday pm and say that they still hope to get instruction from Germany to manage the pairing before then. Otherwise, they are coming round to my suggestion that they just give up and reimburse the money. I will suggest they contact the dealership in Bristol to find out how they did it.

Still no joy with the heater remote. The unit is the Eberspaecher Easystart Type R and theoretically, it should be pretty easy to pair the remote to the stationary unit which is fitted in the car. This unit as well as the remote account for the eyewatering price of £405. Because my car came without the remote on delivery, I wonder if the car has been fitted with the stationary unit at all as this would, unsurprisingly make it challenging for a remote from the spares department to work. I have asked for my money back and am waiting on a decision about this. Does anyone know where the in car unit is fitted, to check if it is there (without dismantling anything)? I now have all the installation and operating manuals downloaded if anyone is interested.

I commiserate, although having checked mine it is indeed paired - collected Marco on Friday. However, I didn’t think to check before because having signed up for Mercedes Me and paired my MP, I can lock / unlock and turn on the water heater etc using my phone app.

The PDI was done by Mercedes (Sytner) Bedford so clearly someone there knows what they are doing. Perhaps a phone call might be helpful to you?

Hi Folks, a new owner about to take delivery of a 2018 Demo AMG 250D vehicle. The vehicle is fitted with both the 5 Kw Diesel Auxiliary Heater (H12+HY1) from the options list (I believe this is also known as the water heater) and also fitted with the 3Kw “Diesel auxiliary night heater” (HZ1+HY2).

The dealer can find only one remote for the units. The dealer has been very open that they will replace the missing unit bit they are not that familiar with the vehicle but are trying hard to find out from Merc. They are excellent so far.

I wonder if someone could be kind enough to post a pic of each remote control and if they know it, what the model numbers is of each heater.

Thanks

Are you sure about the heaters fitted - the manual states that the car can be fitted with either the hot water auxiliary heater or the auxiliary warm air heater, but not both. The war air heater has a two button and single led remote
which needs to be paired to your vehicle by the dealer and you only get one of these.

The auxiliary water heater has a different remote

I think that both of these are extras. The warm air remote is about £400 from memory. It is expensive because it needs a receiver built in to the car.

Also I think the water heater, but definitely not the air heater can be controlled from Mercedes me.

Just in case anyone doesn't realise this. The water heater is heating the engine coolant and not the fresh water supply so no hot showers I am afraid.

Yes you can have both options fitted.
The auxiliary “water” heater can be controlled from Mercedes Me and also has a egg shaped digital remote which can switch on and off and also set the times for it to come on, limited to 50 minutes. The temperature is set through the climate control in the vehicle and if set at its lowest can cool the van with air in at air temperature, but not chilled air - ie it dosnt switch on the A/C.
The auxiliary air heater has an oblong remote that switches the heater on and off. It is linked to the center console that runs the roof, fridge etc and temperature can be set through that. As it has a thermostat if you set the temperature it will control the output to that temperature and is not time limited.
I’ll post some pictures when I get a chance.
