Faulty roof - going up unevenly - suspect actuator

We have a Mercedes Marco Polo (Jan 2018 model) - Here’s a quick summary of what’s going on – I suspect the passenger side (left as you sit in vehicle) actuator needs repairing or replacing and the electrics resetting. The actuator is (Sir code 6814492, 3000N load, 9mm/s).
  • The pop‑top roof has started lifting unevenly.
  • The left‑hand side (passenger side) rises more slowly.
  • This causes the roof to stop and go into error mode.
  • We’ve had to use the emergency close procedure several times, allowing us manually to level up the roof and bringdown slowly evenly.
  • The system now thinks the roof is open even when it’s shut and has stopped the roof working all together.
  • The alarm that indicators the roof is open seems to have been triggered and stays on now constantly even if the roof is closed,
  • After removing and reinserting the fuses, both actuators do move, but the uneven lift returns immediately and the cycle of the emergency close etc repeats.
We’re open to different options, including:
  • Repairing the existing electric roof system
  • Modifying or simplifying the mechanism
  • Even converting to a manual system if that’s more reliable and cost‑effective. This would involve disabling the roof function from the control panel if needed, as long as the alarm can be stopped and the other camper functions remain usable (if we are confident this can be done this may be our preference)
We have had a terrible experience with how unhelpful Mercedes have been locally (Yorkshire). They seem to really hate us bringing a "van" to them.

Has anyone found an independent that can help with roof issues, any recommendations on options. We are open to any pragmatic solution that gets the functionality of the van back (we are a family of 4) - we don't mind if its not perfect, we are also willing to do work ourselves if anyone can advise. or even travel abroad if needed. Any advise or recommendations welcome. We just want to get back out in the van.
