Extended warranty

What is the general view about getting an extended warranty when the original 3 years is up? Does anyone have experience of the Mercedes extended warranty for the MP and how it compares to third party products in terms of cost and exclusions?
I note that Which? Magazine seems to suggest we might be better off putting money aside in a piggy bank!

I have the extended warranty and I am about to ask for a couple of little issues to be sorted, will feed back :Thumbs up:
(I doubt the warranty covers the Westfalia parts (camper bits) although it does not explicitly rule them out)

MB quoted about £800 for two years, one visit it MB for whatever issue would almost certainly cover that, I know it’s a gamble but it seems to make sense.. the Vito is a cracking vehicle with decades of history, it’s packed with technology, nothing ground breaking, all tried and tested.. but things do go wrong and MB car dealers know very little about the vehicle and it seems we will be expected to finance their learning.
I’m seriously considering cutting my losses and signing up because this kind of money could be blown in no time diagnosing even the slightest issue, say a dropping tailgate or one of the multitude of issues documented on this site.

I cannot see how MB cannot cover the conversion, the vehicle is retailed on the forecourt as a Production MB, the camping conversion is done by an Authorised supplier, just like say Bosch who may well supply electrical systems, or Harman Kardon or whoever supplies MB with products and components. The car is just a collection of parts made by third party companies.

Hi GT,
Are you able to confirm what is and isn’t covered by the extended warranty. It’s something I will consider when the time comes. I just had mine serviced. I have a service plan on it but otherwise it would have been £700 for a minor service and brake fluid change. I dread to think what a problem would cost out of warranty.
I did try to look online but because I still have a year of warranty left I couldn’t get any further with it.

Is it worth getting the service plan? 52 a month. The salesman said that the service would possibly not cost me £600 but given the £700 above maybe this would be wise?

My service plan is £40 a month. I thought it was worth it when they quoted £700 for the minor service.
Others on here have mentioned quotes around the £400 mark for the first service.
I think the dealers make it up as they go!

Different salesman...... one saying it was worth it the other not so. If the service costs about £400 then having the additional peace of mind for a small extra each month is possibly worth it. Presumably the service has nothing to do with the warranty.

I took mine for a service to an independent specialist firm run by experienced MB trained engineers who had all the latest equipment and it cost £200 less than the main dealer. Add up £200 a year plus the warranty cost and I’m beginning to think it’s worth risking it without the extended warranty. If anything goes wrong the cost to repair will be at the lower Independent garage prices not the inflated main dealer’s….

Servicing:
I have service B due in two weeks, one dealer quoted £880 ish (which is what the online quote system says as well)...my other local dealer quoted £750 ish, so definitely worth ringing around. (keep in mind my vehicle also needs g/box oil & filter as well as brake fluid change)
I was also told that I could take out the 2 service pack deal on the day if I wanted (at a cost of £950 ish) which makes good sense if you plan to keep you car 2 years at least.
Given that an A & B service plus gearbox oil and filter change and a brake fluid change will come in at £1200-£1300, I would probably go for it.
Note: You also get MB provided roadside assist as part of an MB service, that helps sweeten the pill a little.
*sorry for the ish figures, my notes are at home...

Extended warranty:
Honestly not sure about this one yet as I have not needed to call upon it. My vehicle came with the extended warranty so I have not had to buy it myself, there are one or two niggles I want looked at, I will report back when I have any personal conclusions.

Edit to the above: Service B including G/box oil & filter and brake fluid change is quoted as £708.10 at Peterborough MB...which includes the annual roadside assistance and loyalty "brownie" points with your local dealer seems like not a bad deal to me...

I am still going to go for the MB UK service pack at £960 for 2 services though as my next service A will surely be more than £300 in a years time.

The MP has a two year service cycle. Unless I have for things completely wrong?
That's odd, the dealer quoted 1 yr yesterday...I checked on here and forum user funkyegg emailed MBUK to gain clarification back in Nov 2018, they replied 2 years or 24854 miles

I just checked the app and my first service was on 5 Aug 2020, the app says next is in 345 days. Which makes that May 24 2022. So that looks like 22 months… but maybe that’s the date from purchase not form the last service. Because COVID messed with the capacity MB could cover and our service was late.

Just picking up an old thread; I've just enquired about extended warranty as mine is three years old shortly and its Allianz who provide the cover. The westfalia parts are definitely out of scope, so its just the V class bit that is covered. Still, I think I'll go for it based on the astronomic costs that can come with parts failures.

Can I ask how much it is Steve?

Just checked the renewal cost for the connectivity package (which includes the tracker), £679 for three years. You have to admire the marketing people at MB, how to hook you in then sting you!
