Hi, we have a towbar mounted Thule Velospace XT3, the tilt function on this model allows the tailgate to be opened with bikes loaded on the carrier.. Not all tilt bike carriers have the right clearance to allow the tailgate to be opened with the carrier on the van so check this. We also have the Thule XT cargo box. The carrier is expensive but worth it.

Advice : we have the Atera Strada DL with 3 racks, and it works well ! You can open the tailgate when the rack is slided down.

Have the XT velospace xt 3 with extension (4 bikes). works great and can open the tailgate no problem. Have cargo bag as well, but takes up 3 bikes spot so have not used it yet. looking at roof rack for the 5th bike for next summer vacation.

We have the Atera Strada DL with the additional 4th rack, works great and the curved rail design means its not too heavy to push back up to lock. It also allows the tail gate to fully open as long as your on level ground.

Please can you advise on the bike cover you have in the photo? What is the brand and would you recommend it? My previous cover flapped a lot in the wind and eventually tore.

I would never recommend it, it was damaged after a few trips.

We put a netting over the cycle cover, stops it flapping around. Bought it off Amazon, we have been using that combination for 5 years now and still looks like new..

We couldn’t agree more the Thule is great we got ours from eBay and it was quite a bit cheaper than Halfords. We used it when we went around Cornwall. Fantastic when you need stuff out of the back, just tilt the bikes on the rack and open the tailgate. Well worth it.
