Auxiliary heater confusion

Thanks for all the information.

I’m just about to order and am planning on getting BOTH additional heaters because I would like to both a) warm the cab of the van up remotely before I leave for work in the morning and b) be able to run a heater all night when winter camping.

Just checking I haven’t got the wrong end of the stick and that by getting both heaters both of these things will be possible?

Are there any disadvantages to having both heaters (other than £)? I spotted in the brochure the installation of one of them reduces the size of the Ad Blue tank - is this a big problem? Anything else?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes I can confirm both will be possible I use the remote hot water function frequently and it warms up the van before entering and also when you start the engine the wear from cold starts is reduced and if you get the night heater you 'll be able to use that 24/7 but not remotely using the app but I believe you can get a little remote for local use whilst in bed for instance

I've finally found taken the plunge, and will take delivery of my MP on Monday. Despite the weather it has neither the aux water nor the aux air heater. Probably why I can afford it. Thus it's first stop is a local camper specialist to have an aux air heater fitted - MB didn't want to know about fitting one at it's dealership. So my questions are:

a) has anyone any experience with retrofitting aux air heater on an MP? make? position? control unit? cost?
b) any recommendations on the south coast for a specialist to perform this?

I've found a firm near Poole, and at a bit over £1k with a timer this seems like a good deal, at least compared to list price on a factory fit. I'd like to make sure that it is fitted as unobtrusively as possible, and so would also like to know where the factory fitted heater is positioned, and what make it is.

Any information gratefully received.
We have had an aux air heater fitted (Webasto) aftermarket. It’s superb and the fitting company brilliant. Call Jonny +44 7791 935148 Dirty Weekender Campervan’s. Tell him Mike Shaw recommended and have a tour of the workshops if and when you visit.

Hi all we have taken delivery of our mp and thought we had the Aux hot air heater. This is how it was listed in our spec:-

any ideas?
There are two diesel auxiliary heaters - one that warms the coolant (often referred to as the aux water heater but I note in the latest brochure it is now called the "Diesel-powered Auxiliary Air Heater" code NI0Z) and this can heat the coolant and the cabin for a limited period (60 minutes), and another that uses diesel to warm the air directly and can be used continuously, called the "Diesel-powered Auxiliary Night Air Heater" NI1Z. It has been reported on this forum that there is an electrical heater that helps warm the standard cabin heating more quickly when the engine is running and this is referred to as the electrical auxiliary heating. I think this is what your spec sheet is referring to.

Thank you Roy we saw auxiliary and thought that was the water heater. We did discuss with the dealer that it only had that one and not the night heater. He was none the wiser and probably didn’t know what we were talking about. We got the vehicle for a very good price so we can take solace from that and get one fitted if we feel we need it. In the meantime we bought a mini heater which we can use on hook up.

Sounds good. Don't suppose you could pop up some pics of the install ?

Did he fit it in under the passenger seat and how much, if you don't mind me asking?
Unit is fitted externally under the floor with warm air vent on centre side of driver seat base. Intake on other side of seat base by door. Exhaust etc all tucks in nicely along with heat shielding. Controller is fitted into air vent just inside side door.
All very neat and works a treat. You would not fit the main unit of a heater like this inside the vehicle.
There are cheaper options available but you get what you pay for. You won’t get a better unit than this. Half the price of the Merc factory unit.
We paid just over £1,000 but suggest you give Jonny a call as mentioned.

Very interesting. I like the idea of an external unit. I was looking at getting a Planar fitted but they want to fit it under the seat and I'm unsure if that's wise or not...

Does anyone on here have knowledge of the earlier Marco Polo models (pre 2014) as all these posts are for the new model? Or am I on the wrong site? Thanks

Forgive me as I’m just looking round to buy ,y first MP. Do I get the impression that MB support is very poor for their product and is t it therefore better to go for the good old established VW with high resale value

The MP is fine, it doesn't have the cult following of the VW brand but its no better or worse than a California. Other than roof blisters we're really happy with ours, and resale value is only relevant if you sell. We bought ours as a car that can be used to camp with, and we tend to keep our cars for many years so the depreciation after 6 or so years won't matter too much. Its quite good as a van as well. Buying virtually all new cars and selling within a year means a loss.
