AD Blue, put in diesel tank.

We have inadvertently put some AD Blue, about 1 litre into the diesel tank obviously by mistake, did not start the engine and vehicle is with main dealer now, anyone fully know what they do and likely costs, filled it up with the stuff lots of time so not a complete idiot.

I would imagine that they will need to drain and flush the diesel tank. More than likely need to remove it to do so too
Good luck

As Steve says, they will probably drain your tank, clean out and then refill with some fresh diesel...if they are equipped they may be able to do so with a mechanical siphon rather than by full tank removal.

Diesel engines are very robust and can burn all sorts of contaminants, as you mentioned you didn't run the engine, so any little left within the system will be easily absorbed by the fresh diesel oil and burned.

As to costs...? that is for MB to decide. (there are 3rd party companies which specialise in tank clearing at home on the drive or at the roadside if needed)

Misfuel cost are around £100+ There are plenty of mobile services around that come out and drain the system. We've all done it or will do!!
It is sometime covered by your insurance, worth checking

Thanks for your replies, now for the shock the tech guy at Inchcape in Nottingham. It could be a full replacement of tank, pump and all piping at a cost of 11.5 k, or if we only replace tank pump and some other bits £4.5k, or the cheapest version is around 2.5k, but one repair would result in the warranty being lost on the engine , the car is 18 months old with 25,000 miles, I am stunned that despite car not been started they say because the ignition was turned on to release the steering lock to be loaded on the trailer potentially that has caused the fuel to move, I might be lucky that it has only reached the fuel filter but the tank and fuel will still need replacing hence even the cheapest quote. find it strange that the tank cannot be drained and cleaned, Direct Line do that through Green Flag as part of any claim they get, I know it was my fault but come on Mercdedes

Sorry to hear that Colman, perhaps you can seek a second opinion?...I can imagine this issue happens regularly enough, especially when you consider how many other MB vehicles use the tank/pump/engine combination you have.

Keep the faith and good luck!

You must be gutted, I really feel for you.
It seems like MB are covering their backsides. I'd query the 'potentially' remark. I agree with GT you should seek a second opinion, maybe ring some misfuel services, tell them how much you added and approx how much diesel was in the tank, not started but ignition turned on etc and ask what they can do.
I begs the question that if MB instigated the recovery, knowing that AD Blue in the tank was the reason, why did they unlock the steering knowing that it could 'potentially' cost you £2.5 - 11.5K
The very best of luck!
