Leisure Battery

Dear All

Can anyone advise on the specifications of the Leisure battery in a 2018 Marco polo

Battery is located under passenger seat

Is there a part number available as I can’t locate it in my manual and MB aren’t that familiar with the vehicle configuration

Any / all advise welcomed

This is what we have. We asked the dealer if there should have been a different battery for the leisure (auxiliary). We were told “Mercedes fitted the same for both”. However many people here have fitted Lithium. The starter battery is expensive as it’s supporting stop and go. Therefore I’d take advice. I know also there maybe changes in the charge relays to allow the alternator to charge Lithium.

Thank you for taking the time to reply

Seems after further digging on here that maybe a different battery should be used. Even though shows as good have to say we do have occasional issues with roof, seats and fridge. All seems to point to battery not holding charge. I’ve been pointed to this as an appropriate replacement

Or this AGM version

I have replaced both Starter and Leisure batteries with two of these from Costco, all is working OK.

I have recently had issues with both my batteries (2021 MP but I think batteries are the same on the previous model - the space for them certainly hasn't changed)

Car battery is 95Ah
Leisure battery is 80Ah
Both are AGM batteries.

I have now fitted a Lithium battery (180Ah Titan) but I would recommend you get a DC-DC charger if you wish to go down the Lithium path - it's not a bad idea even sticking with the existing battery - no risk of the relay sticking and draining the car battery, and some can also condition the leisure battery

By the way I specified Titan as not all Lithium batteries are the same dimensions - many are apparently too tall.

XEG12 do you have more details about your setup?

Have you replaced the AGM leisure battery with the Titan or have you added to Titan in to the system somehow?

My leisure battery is 7 years old (2018) and seems to be quick to discharge so looking at replacements.

@AshJones beware, the Titan battery mentioned above is a lithium battery and you can't just swap the original AGM battery for a lithium battery without a DC-DC charger. Doing a straight swap can cause fire and/or damage your alternator.

Beste allemaal

Which dc-dc converter did you use ? And did that fit as well under the seat or where have you placed this? Thanks

I have these details. I have left the MB prices in but they are well out of date so be aware that the costs will be higher than these.

It depends on your battery and the converter you choose. I am using Victron Orion XS with 100Ah from Renogy and it fits. However any larger battery would not fit in my opinion

theres a 180ah lithium battery that will fit.... go big or go home... D https://titanlithium.co.uk/products/titan-lithium-12v-180ah-battery

another thing is that a lithium battery is not just a lithium battery.... these batteries look rock solid on many diff topics like performance , recharge cycles .... power draw .... you can run a 220v device of one of these easy.... D winter ready ....etc etc.... and the internal construction is also important....ive seen one of these torn down on youtube i think.... good remarks. D

and 180ah is huge .... its like 4 agm 90ah batteries... D thus quadrupling the capacity...

one last thing is that dont do this yourself unless uno what youre doing..... the mppt charger can be installed inside the grill on the back of the passenger seat,,,,you dont have to take out the seat. D
get some pro help the car allready has a charge controller under the driver seat etc... ...where the leasiure batter is "right side road" .....think some put the charge controller in there ....but how it will all work together is something im not an expert in .. D

let us know if you complete tthe project . D

Looks good. Now I need to make sure which side is the Leisure Battery - it differs it seems. I think mine is on the right side when sitting inside the car looking out towards the front. I assume it cause the cables to this one is thin, whereas the cables to the other one is thicker… any advice on this
they actually write the BMS can handle agm battery input .,...however i have no clue if thats safe... or .. D or if performs just as well as a DC-DC charger ..... plug and play...they state:

theres a spiltcharger in the mercedes allready...so it should be just putting this battery in instead. D the relay charger in the merc can ouput very high levels if the battery is very low.... like 80-100 Ah.s

quote:
ur most asked question - can lithium replace your current lead-acid battery? TITAN lithium batteries and BMS is designed as a direct replacement of lead-acid batteries with no need for new equipment. Our custom unique battery cases are designed to be a carbon copy of existing lead acid leisure batteries, meaning users will not need to replace to amend existing battery locations. These battery sizes are known as DIN sizes and are a very common standard across the world.

We do still recommend double-checking your current charging equipment - our batteries are designed to accept AGM or Sealed modes if a lithium/li-ion preset is not available. Look for a maximum charge voltage of 14.4V.

TITAN Lithium batteries are compatible with split charge relays and DC to DC chargers.

For more detailed information, please check out our FAQs.

Our lithium batteries are for running equipment only (i.e. deep cycle use) - they are not designed for engine starting.

maybe you should write them Torben... tell them they can sell many more with the info of compliance. D

edit :after looking at the specs ...i think i could work but its not recommended charge rates
and with a 50amp charger it will still take about 4 hours to charge.... so one should add some solar power as well....but if you hook it up to some grid maybe... so it might be wasted with all that power and no time to charge it .. D

Recommended Charge Rate:

Maximum Charge Rate:250A
10A to 50A
