Different wheels?

First up, apologies if this is a stupid question.... I'm pretty new to this!

I'm in the process of getting a new MP ordered up and curious to know whether anyone has any experience of speccing different wheels? Brochure makes it seem like there are no options other than size and I'd love to have something dark to go with a black colour scheme. I've seen a couple of pics on here of people with nice looking dark wheels but can't figure out how they came by them.
Or would you consider aftermarket wheels? Never been too sure about them myself but as the choice seems so limited...

Any advice much appreciated!

Welcome. I doubt whether you will get much cooperation from MB dealers to supply non standard wheels. It is likely you will have to go for some after market ones and end up with a set of pristine MB wheels at the back of the garage
if you download the online operator instructions for the V Class and search wheeels and tyres you will find the acceptable wheel and tyre combinations for the various models and the variations that are allowed without affecting the vehicle computer systems etc.
Some wheel supplier web sites provide information on the pcd and offsets to confirm compatibility if you want to change wheel sizes. I don’t have the info to hand but I have gone through the process to get different wheel sizes for snow tyres on my other vehicles.
It is good to see people wanting to depart from the standard factory spec.
I can’t wait to see a paisley painted, new age Marco Polo or Horizon turn up at a Mercedes dealer for an annual service :)

Thanks epigram, that's really helpful. I guess I'll have to think long & hard about how much the aesthetics really mean to me!

I know I'd get upset if I forked out for expensive but smart wheels, then they got kerbed (both my fronts are scuffed already!). Plenty of good things for camping to spend out on. The only aesthetic thing I considered was my awning, silver on a black van, it was pre-specc'd so no choice; it looks a bit like those builders van pipe holders on the roof bars. I decided to live with it as I can't see it from the inside!

There was someone on here with a blue van with darker (satin) standard wheels. I think he’d said that the dealer had done it prior to him buying it. I thought it looked really good.

Yes I think that's the one thinking of. It was on old thread unfortunately but I'll try and follow it up.

A good point about the scuffing. I'm conscious of how nice and new the whole van will be prior to unleashing my kids on it so trying (hard!) to stay relaxed about wear & tear. Just jealous of how much customisation you see on the VWs still I guess...

I’m not a huge fan of the standard wheels that mine will arrive with but I won’t change them. I found this pic from here. royc is the member. If he’s still around maybe he can share more pics, or how they were altered.

Just an update that I have now found the info I require and downloaded the guide as you suggested. Hopefully (!) the dealer will be amenable and we can come to an arrangement to swap... All I'm really after is the standard pattern with a darker finish. If it comes down to having to buy a second pair then I don't think I care that much! Just a nice to have....

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Yes! That's what I'm after. As I said above though, will have to wear my sensible head if push comes to £1000+ shove!

There may be a local reputable business who will respray/powder coat your wheels in satin grey/black/any other colour. Should only cost a couple hundred quid.
I have some wealthy friends who I’d probably ask, since I know some have done similar. If they’re happy to trust a company with their £12k set of “rims” then I reckon I could trust them with my builders van :D

Well, I am still around :)
Actually the darker wheels were a standard factory-fit, no cost option when I got my MP - I ordered late 2017 and it was delivered early 2018. It's a shame that they appear to have removed the option because I still like them. They seem (touch wood) pretty resistant to kerbing unlike the matt black wheels on my wife's Mini Cooper S (low profile tyres are a nightmare for that) and the colour hides the dirt pretty well if I go a while without cleaning the van.
