Hi, we're looking to get a towbar put onto our Marco Polo Horizon that's just been delivered - for a bike rack. Would be interested to hear who you've used, rating and cost?

Thanks

Ashley

Hi Ashley. We've not had ours fitted yet. Hoping to hear if anyone has used gttowing.co.uk. The quote we've been given from them is £770. Where are you based...?

We're in Fleet. We had out MP Horizon delivered yesterday (not driven it yet!) but looking at what essentials we'll need. Awning and towbar. Also looking for a boot pod that'll house the cooler, cooker and sink!

Cool!! Is it new...?? A pity you didn't get the factory fitted towbar! Only £750 add-on isn't it...?

It is new, but they are so rare to find and they're not building any at the moment. I couldn't get them to add it on as it was preconfigured - but I got a really good price so we went for it. We've been thinking so long about getting one and just bit the bullet.! The awning too was £2,000 to add on, so I'm looking for good options of getting one on.

Fair enough!! Good luck. Hope you find good solutions for both. We're booked in at gttowing.com mid August.

Thanks! Good luck too - let me know how it all goes. Are you getting a fixed or detachable one?
We're getting a Westfalia detachable swan-neck and got our eyes set on an Atera Strada DL 3. Just need to double check(triple check! we've done soooo much research and comparisons! Argh!!) wheel base suitability for bikes. Might end up going for a Thule. Looking for that elusive 4 bike rack that allows the tailgate to open. :)

Brilliant - then please do let me know! I looked at the Atera Strada DL 3 with the option to extend to 4 bikes. Love the slide and tilt to make room for the tailgate. I'll have to speak to a friend at Thule to see if the tilt only mechanism is enough for the tailgate. Seems like you might be a couple of steps ahead - I'll let you know what I get back from my friend. Keep asking myself if we should have had the other child or got another dog :)

Thule Velospace XT3 Bike Carrier with a Mercedes Marco Polo

Atera Strada DL3 on Marco Polo (I think, I don't speak German

Both seem to clear the tailgate. We just need to check wheel base lengths they can take and handle bar clearance from door when up. Neither currently available! Ha ha. :)

Hi there, I hope this message finds you well. I was wondering how you got on with your towbar retrofit and if you would recommend gttowing.com? Many thanks

Hey! Sorry for the late reply! Yes, we've had a tow bar fitted. Had it booked in for a removable towbar, but got a call from gttowing the week of the booking to say that they couldn't get hold of any removable towbars, but that they would fit a standard towbar and update to removable when it came in stock. The installation of the standard towbar was good. No complaints there. Will update with how the installation of the removable one goes. That's when they do the cut in the bumper!! Eeeeek!

Just updating. We had our removable towbar with 13 pin electrics fitted yesterday at gttowing.co.uk. I was really nervous about the bumper cut and the work in general, but I'm really impressed. Highly recommend. Just to note, with an aftermarket towbar like this (without the cooling upgrade) apparently you can tow up to 2T, which is pretty much any single wheel trailer or caravan! If you have a lease vehicle and want a towbar, you can get a fixed towbar fitted that doesn't require a cut in the bumper, so it can be removed prior to returning the van. I hope this helps.

Looks identical to the westfalia factory fit removable towbar. How do you find it? I found it extremely easy to attach / detach - you can literally do it without looking. Highly recommended

It is a Westfalia removable towbar. :) And yes, it is incredibly easy to attach / detach! Yet to put out Atera bike rack on it to check tailgate clears, but very happy with the towbar installation.
