Question about Marco Polo with Airmatic suspension. Lower setting for parking garage?

Hi everyone,

I'm picking up my new MP 300d with Airmatic suspension this week. I've been searching for an answer to this but can't find a clear answer so thought I'd ask here. Is there a setting to lower the car for entry into a parking garage? If I understand correctly the Sport mode lowers the car, but will it stay lower if activated while stopped and slowly entering a garage? And then stay lowered until I leave the garage and drive away or manually set it to comfort? Or is there another setting to achieve this? The height now is about 1.99 meters. Ideally I'd like to lower to 1.94-1.95 if possible to use my parking garage without fear. ;-)

Thanks a lot!

The 1.99 measurement is without the OEM awning on, I know you were thinking of removing the awning but if you leave the awning on it is a little taller even than the 1.99m - I have a solar panel fitted as well (which I really like and I would not be without) this raises the height a little more by circa 25mm
Regarding the adjustable suspension I cannot comment as I do not have experience with this.

Thank you, from what I've gathered in my searches if you set the Airmatic to "Sport" it lowers the car. However, I am not sure if you then turn the car off and return hours later if it automagically resets to Comfort/Standard height (would be bad). I've asked the Dealer to test this for me and send measurements in Sport mode and he's happy to do so. I'm also going to fit some solar panels (flexible from a company here called CaliSolar) for 320 watts. Can't wait! Worst case is I'll need to rent a parking space and get rid of the dedicated parking garage. I love having the garage for the extra storage and also so I can tinker and work on my cars in privacy.

Apparently there are also OBD dongles you can buy that allow you to adjust the airmatic height settings, but I would prefer to avoid any hack jobs.

Cheers!

I think it would be a bit strange if the "Sport" setting changed due to speed? What happens if you meet traffic during your journey etc...
I can imagine it might reset to normal when the ignition is switched off/on again? but it is all guessing for now. Looking forward to what the dealer says.

No, I mean if you set the sport setting to enter a garage and after the car sits overnight, etc, when you then start the car again it defaults to comfort. At least this is what the dealer suspects might happen as it does happen in other Mercedes with Airmatic. So he is going to test that for me and send me measurements.

I understand, and I think it might

If it does, he suggested to only turn the key ignition on but not start the engine, then set it to Sport and then start the engine. Fun fun. With the VB or Goldshmidtt air suspension it is so simple with a remote and the settings stick.

Maybe you can set the suspension remotely from the MBUX (or the app?!) - we do not have the air prep here in the UK... unless I am mistaken.
My MP is from 2017, and definitely no air suspension.

I'll figure it out soon enough. And if all else fails I will remove it and go with the VB kit.

Does on mine Epi? unless 1.99 includes the awning?
The highest point on the roof is just behind the depression for the sunroof approx the front of the side door. I did a quick check with a spirit level and at that point the awning is 1-2 cm lower than the roof. I found this out the hard way when a garage door didn’t fully open and slid along the top of awning and touched the roof.

Hi Epi, this is what I see....and yes the fence needs a paint!
(I did take a measure to this and I find roughly 1.95cm)

I didnt see airmatic as an option when buying my mp. How much is it?
Maybe it is not an option in the UK? In Switzerland it was 2,200 Chf. There are other retrofit options that are much better though (and more expensive) from VB or Goldschmiddt. These allow you to use a remote control and granularly control the height, etc. Can go 40mm higher than stock for off-road, and as low as the wheel wells will allow for parking in garages. Down to about 1.92 meters if I recall.

Hi Webbah, so does the new MP fit in the underground parking spot? and does the "air suspension" reset after the key is out etc?

Hey, it does fit but it is very tight! Attached a photo for reference. The main issue is the electric garage door bracket that is in the middle as it hangs down a bit. Also the angle of the door as it closes. So the only option was to back into the garage as the angle of the windshield allows it to close and the bracket clears the high part of the roof by only 2-3 cm's even in Comfort mode / standard height. I didn't need to test it in Sport mode as it wasn't necessary.

Will be careful this Friday after the solar is installed, but the installer insists that it doesn't add any height at all as these are super flat and installed towards the rear of the MP.IMG_1201.JPG

Looks like a perfect fit... an MP glove!
( your MP looks mean, like you need bars rather than a door to contain it! )
