Sterilisation of water tank

Doors anyone desterilise their fresh water tank?

At season start I tend to fill the tank and drain it and give the sink a good run though. I put maybe three or four sterident tablets in the tank let it sit for a day or so then drain and refill.

does anyone else do similar or am I wasting my time, is there a better way?

That’s all i do to be fair as we only use the water normally for boiling the kettle etc and flush it out approx 2-3 times a year.
