Scheduled Service A. A Portuguese experience

After 42K Kilometers, 18 months, took our MP for scheduled service A to MB in Sintra. This service, I understand, is an oil change and air filter.

At the time of drop off I learned that there is a recall on the upper bunk mattress. No charge.

Three weeks later, I was able to retrieve it, without the aforementioned mattress, and with a €350 charge for the service.

I have owned two Mercedes in the US and never paid for maintenance during the initial (then 4 year, now 2) warranty period.

A 45 minute wait and several phone calls later, my service associate agreed to waive the charge. And promised that the mattress would one day arrive. Holding my breath.

As my friend, who was the CFO of a large US car dealer, told me, most of the profit in a dealership is generated from Service. The more service bays a dealer has, the greater the profit.

This obviously has not dawned upon our Portuguese Merc dealer. €350 for an oil change?
