Recommendation for cleaning the water Tanks ?

I bet I'll get shot down in flames for not doing it correctly but I just use Milton sterilising tabs dissolved in 5 lt of water a couple of times, let it stand, run the tap, then rinse. As I don't drink the water I think it's simple and safe (i'm OK so far). I make cider and have milton sterilised all the demijohns and glass bottles for years with no issues. Just empty the waste tank. I'm sure someone has a better way though?

I've used Puriclean powder.
Put some water in clean water, add Puriclean via teaspoon then more water and let it stand for an hour.
Using sink tap pump through (this cleans piping) into waste water tank and let it stand for an hour.
Fill water tank and empty. Empty waste tank.

A good friend and long time RV owner says he's been using denture fizzy cleaning tablets. Leaves them in for 30 minutes to an hour then drains through both tanks. It's non toxin in case any residue is left. He swears by it, buys them from the ACTION discount shop.
Can a nyone suggest how often to flush the tanks?
We use it primarily for coffee, tea and brushing our teeth.
Gets drained after every trip (which was every other week BC (Before Corona)).
