leisure battery overheating/overcharging?

Hi folks,I was on a site last week and hooked up to 240 for the first time,had a fan heater plugged in and ran it a few times for no more than 5 mins,when I woke in the middle of the night I was aware of a strange strong smell,after hunting for the source I found the leisure battery was roasting and even the metal battery case was quite warm,I unplugged from the 240 and it cooled down eventually,forgot to check the voltage on the control panel before I unhooked,the battery still charges as normal when I'm driving,when I got back to the house I hooked up and it never went above 14.1 volts after an hour hooked up,anyone experienced this?.....think I'm gonna have to get it checked out anyway as it's under warranty from the place it came from....
