Has anyone (ab)used the leisure battery

Hi

We have a Vito MP from 2001. It's quite simple to add a 12V directly to the leisure battery or maybe even fused for better security, and that would give options to:

1) Connect 12V to multi-USB adaptor to charge multiple phones / tablets
2) Connect an inverter to supply power to my 85W running laptop

Would 1) drain the battery very fast or has anyone here done this? And has anyone tried the setup I describe in 2) ?

I've added 12v cigarette lighter feed to another camper but this was via a PMS (Power Management Supply) Unit but can't see no reason why you couldn't go straight off the battery as long as its fused, correct rated wires are used and I'd personally install a switch to so you can turn the feed off. I wouldn't install anything without a fuse - fires are easily caused on a 12v system!
