Fridge - temperature - freezing issues

Good afternoon all,
I am regular reader of the forum and have found so much useful information on here already!
We bought a 2018 Marco Polo in Feb and have already been on 4 adventures - it is perfect for the two of us and our 3 dogs! We absolutely love it!

So to set the scene, we fitted a solar panel in May, and on the same holiday the control panel packed in (the previous owner had spilt something sticky on it - but to be fair, it is a ridiculous design fault putting coffee holders next to the most valuable bit of kit)
So we have had the control panel replaced...

Now the fridge temperature gage seems not to be working, it was set to 2 and it froze everything in the fridge which is obviously quite frustrating as our food was ruined and the beers were undrinkable!

Any advice on a, how to fix it ourselves or b, to get it fixed by someone who knows what they are doing!

Cheers

Hey Tambo, and welcome along :Welcome: good to have you on board!!

Is the new control unit working OK now? because I think the issue might be with the fridge if the control unit seems to be working ok.
There are threads on here somewhere about the fridge temperature sensor packing in and just freezing everything to add insult to injury.
Mine was replaced under warranty by a previous owner, is your MP under warranty? Even if not you could try and see if MB will replace for you as a known fault.

Failing that I have read that it is a simple enough DIY replacement job...although one thing to check is that all the vents inside and outside the fridge are clear...a bag in front of the sensor element might cause a faulty reading.

Good luck and let us know how you get on :Thumbs up:

Hi there. I’ve just taken ownership of a 2018 MP and have the same frustrating problem with the fridge - or should I say freezer!! Food frozen solid at low setting. Did you manage to find a fix for this?
Thanks , Richard

Very common problem with all Westfalia refrigerators and 99% of the time the cause is failure of the sender/thermostat.

Ah, thanks. The vehicle is out of warranty, any idea where best to go to get it replaced? Is it something that owners sometimes do themselves? Richard

I don't think it is an easy job and I also don't think MB will have a clue how to replace it but you could try them.

A van conversion company may be able to help as although it's a Westfalia fridge the manufacturer is Dometic which are commonly fitted to van conversions.

Was the fridge repair successful ?
Interested to know how and who is competent to replace the fridge sensor.
My MP has been with dealer for 6 weeks now and they say still waiting for Temp sensor !

Local MB garage recommended that I find a caravan/campervan fridge specialist to do - because that’s what they would do! I’ve found someone to do it and it’s going in next week. Will keep you posted.

Good afternoon Tambo,

As a fairly new Marco Polo owner I seem to have a similar problem with the control panel being sticky and not very positive. Would it be rude to ask if its an expensive replacement and can it be DIY fitted.
Regards, Russ
