Floor heating in rear of van hot while driving when front is cold and climate control temp on cold?

Hi We have a 2017/2018 Marco Polo with a factory fitted diesel auxiliary heater.
Over the last couple of weeks we have noticed that the back of the van behind front seats is getting hot when driving even when we've got the climate control on cool or AC. Cool air is coming out of the front vents, Thought it might be the fridge but switched it off on the journey home. We also noticed that stuff in the sliding floor cupboard was warm, No warning lights on the vehicle.

Had it checked by our friendly mechanic and he's identified that there is a heating vent below the sliding cupboard at floor level and this is constantly blowing out hot air when the engine is on despite the main climate control being set at and blowing out cool air.

Are we missing something simple? Is there a switch somewhere to switch it off? Is it part of the climate control system or something different?
Would be really good to get your ideas and possible fixes. Thanks
