Extended warranty

Hi guys,

I wonder how many of you will be thinking of extending the warranty of your MPs once the standard 3 years warranty runs out? Mine is due end of the month and I just got a quote from Mercedes, i.e. 500 for one year, 950 for two, or 48 per month rolling contract...

Cheers,

Neal

We have been offered the same deal. The guy we spoke to admitted it would cover mainly electrical and mechanical parts and would not cover work done by Westfalia. Not convinced it is worth it but have asked them to send written details

There is an interesting article by Which? Online dated 1/10/20 that is worth reading. ( I don’t seem to be able to attach it but if you search something like ‘extended car warranties reviews ‘ you should find it) It warns that most policies cost far more than the average repair costs and that many policies have so many small-print exclusions that you may not even have the cover you think you are paying for. There are a number of independent companies that offer warranties so it would be worth comparing their prices and what they cover. If you do decide you want to get a policy you may (or may not!) find you can get better cover for less by not going with Mercedes. Good luck. Let us know what you do. Mine is still in the first 3 years but I’m sure it’s something lots of us will consider at some stage.

The only reason I might consider getting the extended warranty through Mercedes is to do with the MP part of the vehicle. if this is not covered then it's probably not worth taking....will try to get some sort of confirmation from Mercedes

Hi Neal. It might be worth checking with local caravan/motorhome specialists. They probably have a better idea about all the habitation aspects of the MP than any Mercedes dealer. From what I read on here most of the dealers seem fairly clueless about the MP - but that might be unfair to some of them.
I don’t think any of the water/gas/fridge aspects are exclusive to Mercedes but worth checking about the control panel interface. I wouldn’t have thought that any part of the Camper side of things would be so expensive to fix as to justify the sort of warranty price they have quoted unless you were very unlucky. I don’t know the answers to these questions; just setting out some thoughts in the hope they help. In the end we each decide these issues on the basis of what let’s us sleep at night!

Good point, will look around to see what the best cover would be, or if any extended warranty would be worth it....

General rule of thumb, avoid the extended warranties and find a local mechanic.
