The Long wait starts

Hi,

I have recently joined the mp owners’ club, I am hoping to place an order for a new camper with fitted kitchen once the dealers reopen, have been trying to make sense of the MB Brochure over the last week or so and would appreciate any advice that would make placing the order as pain free as possible.

My understanding is that there are two models that include the kitchen, there isn’t a great price differential between the today, however I certainly don’t want a sport suspension which is included in the AMG., as this came with my current ride and with the state of many roads leaves a lot to be desired.

i have listed the following options which I will probably order, would appreciate any advice.

Metallic Paint
Side Awning
360 camera.
I won’t order the hot water heater as I clearly misunderstood, thanks for the post.

Possible deals?

Anything else I may need to consider, will be using sites with electric, probably purchase drive away tent.

I have owned a number of motorhomes so have quite a lot of camping equipment.

i want a smaller van to keep at home rather than at present in storage.

Great site,

Kind regards

Ronson

Hello Rolson, welcome to the forum. Everyone has their own opinion, but some thoughts on your questions:
  • Colour - A survey regarding roof blisters is running, have a look as it shows the popular colours. Black is the new black by the looks of things! Unlike a euro fleet car which need to be metallic, not so for a MP if gauged by the current owners.
  • Loads on here about awnings, depends on how you plan to use the MP. I use the side awning and have a couple of panels, this works well for us.
  • Camera is useful, especially if you use it as your daily driver
  • Water heater - I do use ours, there is a couple of threads on here about it and it is often misunderstood . A winter van warmer that you can start from your phone. The remote control can do even more as long as its in range. It does have its limitations though on run time, that's why people go for the night air heater.
  • Deals - Just reading this forum recently and it look unlikely that there will be any big discounts on a new MP, but I have no direct knowledge here, best answered by someone else who has just placed their order
Hope this helps

Firstly welcome along Rolson, good to have you around :Welcome:

Much of what you ask is subjective, but I'll throw my tuppenceworth in the mix for your consideration!

There are two models (with further different engine choices) to pick from V??? Sport or V??? AMG. I have the Sport variant and have not driven an AMG to contrast but as I understand it the AMG has the same basic setup of the Sport but with larger diameter (and more choice of) wheels, different suspension & exterior visual highlight upgrades (front grill for example).
The drive of my 2017 Sport is very good, much more nimble than a big motorhome for example, and less "van like" than your average builders van. It could be described as a sporty van (or like a tall soft car)...and it is quiet on a smooth road surface.
See if you can get a drive of one (even a pre-owned example) before you buy.

I have a black MP but would have been equally happy with silver or any of the colours really...in fact black is probably my least favourite but is still perfectly nice to live with.

Accessories:
1.Might be worth considering the towing package, I can't help but think the MP and a decent lightweight fixed bed caravan would make an epic pairing - I think the MB factory tow pack includes a change to the engine cooling system to assist, so if you are in any doubt bung it on now as aftermarket fitment is not that much cheaper and obviously doesn't include the engine cooling upgrade.
2.Diesel fired aux night heater (make sure you get the right one).
3.360 camera - not sure I would order this, having driven and parked my MP without it is easy enough and the all round visuals is good.

Deals:
Carwow is your friend, and pick up the phone to a few national dealers a while a way from you (not in your local MB group) and see what can be done, especially as you are having extra's fitted. 10% or more was achievable in the VW range in January this year!!

Good luck, let us know how you get on

Just in case anyone is looking for immediate delivery, I saw one posted on Facebook at the Grimsby Mercedes website, 2021 black and black interior, says pre registered. £66,500

Big thanks to WillC, I am now the proud owner to be of an AMG Marco Polo, this was the last of the five received by Mercedes Benz of Grimsby yesterday. This was their total allocation for 2021, the five vehicles were all the same specification, all are now sold.

I had an appointment to visit a local dealer on the 14th April and would probably have signed up, delivery quoted initially to be January 2022.
it is a higher specification than I had planned but I couldn’t be happier.

Steve had recommended black as the new black being possibly the colour to have, seems that I have also been fortunate in that respect.

I had read the forums on here regarding delivery times, can’t believe only have to wait two weeks. The not such a long wait is almost over.

I’ve heard from the dealer this morning the vans due to hit them 15th of June though no handover date yet, how are the rest of the august/September crew getting on

Hello fellow June delivery people, have you had any update? My dealer said he doesn’t want to tempt fate but has had several vehicles delayed by 3-4 weeks due to component supply issues. Would be good to know if anyone else is hearing anything similar?

My delivery date was June 24th and I’ve been told this week that mine is ex-factory, so on it’s way to the Uk. They can’t give me an arrival date or actual collection date yet though! I find it amazing they can’t give better forecasts of dates this close to delivery.
